Middle School

In the Middle school, the subject area expands into new existing areas as well as developing existing knowledge and skills. Subjects at middle school level include Modern Languages, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts & Music, Home Economics, and Information Technology.

In particular in middle school the emphasis is on the development of effective studying skills and nurturing critical thinking. It is extremely important to develop skills necessary for life and future study. Through units in health and social education students are taught how to live a mentally and healthy life. Environmental considerations are taught not only in science classes but across the curriculum in order that students understand the importance of conservation and accept responsibility for present and future generations.

The school’s policy is to accentuate the interelatedness of all of the subjects taught. This approach asks the students to consider questions in their widest possible scope and to realize that good solutions often draw upon insights one has acquired from various sources. The school’s philosophy is that education can foster understanding among young people around the world enabling future generations to live more peacefully and productively than we do today.

The English Curriculum of Chatrwittaya School offers a challenging curriculum of two major focuses. The first is to develop each student’s listening, reading and writing skills so that he/she is an effective communicator, one who can learn in other subject areas as well as English both in the classroom and outside of it. The second focus is to develop each student’s critical and analytical abilities through a curriculum in which students grapple with a broad and challenging program of reading and writing, which is regularly interrelated with relevant social, historical and moral contexts. The essence of the middle school programme is to develop skills and attitudes necessary for success in the Senior School English Programme. For those students with an exceptional aptitude for languages, we also offer tuition modules in Chinese and French.

The Arts.

The arts are a form of human expression through activity. It is through artistic expression that children learn to share their feelings about themselves, other people and the world. An Arts’ education should involve exposure to all the artistic areas such as visual arts, including painting, sketching, ceramics and photography, as well as performance arts including music, dance and drama.

In art classes, students learn to appreciate the creative and inventive genius of people and their impact on society throughout the curriculum and by focusing on rapid changes in technology. The student learns the benefits and hopes for the future that these initiatives bring.

Chatrwittaya School Bangkok - Social Studies
It is the objective of Chatrwittaya’s Social Studies Cirriculum to prepare thoughtful, active citizens who can function effectively and productively in a multicultural and interdependent world. The study of history and its related disciplines can enrich one’s life and contribute to each person’s respect for political values. This will help the students to understand how the past has brought us the present and how we act at present will assure each and everyone of a better future. The classroom, school community, nation and international community provide the student with settings where he/she can enquire about questions that deal with social values and behaviour. The global dimensions of issues comprise a major component of study. The search for and the study of alternatvie solutions to important social problems can be achieved most effectively through the process of enquiry.

Through the courses offered, students will be encouraged to develop confidence in science as a sound basis for making judgements and understanding the world. Hands-on activities and mini-researches train students to think in very abstract ways. They learn to question the validity and reliability of data and appreciate the value of scientific method and reasoning. Eventually, the students will be able to tackle problems in a logical and systematic manner in the future.

Mathematics

The Mathematics Curriculum of Chatrwittaya School provides the student with opportunities to persure a chain of thought and to arrive at a logical conclusion. The goals of the math department are for students to be able to analyze a problem, recognise the mathematical nature of the problem, and to call on necessary mathematical models, equations or statements to solve the problem. Students should then be able to test their solution and take appropriate corrective action, if needed. It strives to help students develop a higher level of self-confidence and self-reliance in dealing with mathematical problems.
